I have a son with oppositional defiant disorder. I have been through parent training classes, read other books on behavioral interventions at home, and implemented programs as recommended, but have still struggled to find options to address specific oppositional behaviors. I was looking for an up-to-date, comprehensive book on the disorder and its treatment options. This book is written as a textbook for a college class for school psychologists, with psychological theories and statistical concepts related to this condition and research related to it explained in great depth. I was disappointed that Dr. Gresham did not address the more recent research on neurobiological findings in this disorder. However, it does list, summarize and compare and contrast school-based treatment options. To implement those programs, you would have to go to the original sources to access the specific curriculums. Home based therapies are alluded to, but not discussed in detail. I did pick up on a few school treatment options that I will seek to learn more about elsewhere and try to adapt for home. I found the individual case studies at the end most helpful. It is good as an overview of options for school-based psychologists, but I don't recommend it for parents.
